A Soul Gone Missing
At one time, I had a deviant art account where I posted writings and photography. I followed a number of people that seemed to be interesting.
It is amazing how many people have real talent. These people are just wandering about the streets, working as baristas for fry cooks or maybe not working at all, just getting by. But when they open and share some of their creative spirit it is like watching someone turn on a light inside themselves, and they shine.
One person I followed shone. She didn’t post that much, but what she posted was good. I was glad I followed her and one day I visited her site with the intention of writing to her and letting her know that I thought she had talent and appreciated it.
I found she had posted a journal entry a few days before. It was full of despair, written in the middle of the night. She described her situation as being without money, without friends, and alone. She appeared to feel there was nothing left for her, and the simple act of writing her despair in a journal entry on a social media site was illustrative of how low she had sunk.
I wrote to her, but received no reply.
Years later, that journal entry is the last evidence of any activity on that deviant art account.
This remains one of the saddest experiences I have ever had.

Because I'm Happy....
Inching closer to the finish line with this one. Yay!
There is a fairly new oil color from Sennelier called "Kings Blue" it's gorgeous to experiment with, I think it's reminiscent of the special light violet that J. Lipking uses to cool things down in his portrait paintings. Another exciting new color I added to my palette recently is "Permanent Magenta" a brilliant oil color for flowers.

Little Carrie's Painting
This is an oil painting my Great-Grandfather Charles E. Gooch's first wife Carrie Baker painted back in 1896. They were married in 1896 and moved to the town of Mt. Shasta,CA. which back then was referred to as "Sisson", it sits directly below the mountain on the West side. She became pregnant soon after they wed and died a week after giving birth to a still-born daughter named Mazelli Gooch. Carrie was a very small woman, she taught elementary school and painted in her spare time while living in Lookout, CA.
My 2nd cousin Avis has this painting in her home, I recently visited her and shot a couple photo's of it.
It's quite lovley, I believe the lake in the painting is Lake Siskiyou but I'm not certain of it. In her letters during their courtship; she spoke of how excited she was to be moving to Mt. Shasta to be with him after the wedding.
The last few months of her pregnancy were spent away from him down in Napa Valley, CA. at a health care facility where she died about 11 mos. after they were married.
I have her trunk that she stored her belongings in and which she took with her on horse and buggy to Mt. Shasta, it's a beautiful piece.

I Like to Call This My "Gallery Display Dress Rehearsal"
All my current figurative & floral paintings are on display at the Gallery Building- 1090 N. Palm Canyon Main St. in Palm Springs. My talented sister Lisa Stanley helped me set this up! Hopefully I'll be moving to my new location in about 3 weeks, I'm so excited!!
In Memory of My Sweet Gramma Nettie Hendrix
I painted this Sunflower in pastel for my Gramma Nettie 19 years ago, she grew so many in her yard over the years including this one.
I love her so much and miss her everyday. She was 98 years old and was an incredible woman. She left this place on July 19,2011 at 8:50pm.
"Beannacht" by John O'Donohue
On the day when
The weight deadens
On your shoulders
And you stumble,
May the clay dance
To balance you.
And when your eyes
Freeze behind
The gray window
And the ghost of loss
Gets into you,
May a flock of colors,
Indigo, red, green
And azure blue,
Come to awaken in you
A meadow of delight.
When the canvas frays
In the curragh of thought
And a stain of ocean
Blackens beneath you,
May there come across the waters
A path of yellow moonlight
To bring you safely home.
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
May the clarity of light be yours,
May the fluency of the ocean be yours,
May the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
Wind work these words
Of love around you,
An invisible cloak
To mind your life......

Make an Easy Art Apron!
This is fun and super easy and perfect to paint in.
I cut a leg off of one of my husband's old jeans, opened it up flat and rounded the bottom corners. Then I sewed about 2 yds. of double sided bias tape to the edges and put a little strip of pretty fabric and 2 shiny buttons across the top for added color. The little heart shaped fabric tattoo is from a song of Lenny Kravitz called "Let Love Rule", I was just playing around...
The jean fabric is nice because it's cotton so you don't cook in it and it's thick enough to absorb any splashes of paint or thinner, plus you are recylcing the old jeans! Give it a shot!

Rose Frantzen has released a portrait book which has 180 color photos of paintings she has done within 365 days. Her subjects were locals from her hometown of Maquoketa and the exhibit is being shown at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC this fall. What a great accomplishment for this woman! She studied under Richard Schmid several years ago.
Mahl Stick
I've been searching for a mahl stick, many times I see other artists use canes which hang over the top of their canvas to easily grab and swing over for a steady wrist. I found this little beauty on ebay, it's a womans walking stick. I really love it and think it's kind of funny being it's a womans leg, but there is a fair amount of weight at the top and I hope it doesn't slip off and nail me on the forehead.
